ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.  -- Balloon Fiesta Park is full of activities, events and ways to spend time even before or after balloons have launched.

Albuquerque Area Firefighters Random Acts is hosting one of them -- a chainsaw woodcarving competition meant to raise money for the local community service group.

Firefighters Random Acts connects metro-area firefighters to go a step further to help families with whatever they might need. It also gives firefighters a way to see joy on people’s faces, and combat the Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder many of them face from work on the job.

“As firefighters are out on trucks, they see things that they can do for families beyond the 911 response," said Steve Vaughan of Firefighters Random Acts. "They're there for a medical emergency but kids are sleeping on the floor, firefighters can go back the next day with beds or there's food in the home they go back with groceries.”

At their woodcarving competition, competitors will carve small pieces to be raffled off and larger ones to be auctioned off.

Raffle tickets are available for two dollars each, three for five dollars or 12 for 20 dollars, which comes with a t-shirt. Competitions and drawings will take place Thursday, Friday and Saturday of Fiesta on the North side of the park.
