AFD: 58 cars damaged or destroyed in SE Albuquerque fire

Albuquerque Fire Department officials say an early morning fire at an apartment carport damaged 58 vehicles.

At approximately 12:38 Friday morning the Albuquerque Fire Department was dispatched to a fire located at 1127 Cardenas Southeast. Upon arrival, crews found several vehicles on fire. The vehicles were located beneath a large metal carport type structure, according to AFD officials.

The carport structure is believed to be for residents of an apartment complex.  

AFD officials said the fire was brought under control within approximately 45 minutes.

58 vehicles were destroyed or damaged by fire, officials said, a revision from their higher morning estimates of about 70 vehicles.

No injuries were reported and the fire is under investigation. No additional information is available at this time.
