ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Brand new Albuquerque Rapid Transit buses will hit the road for the first time for the annual River of Lights. Instead of driving to the to the BioPark Botanic Gardens downtown, visitors can try the rapid transit bus out for free.

The River of Lights event usually draws huge crowds. That means parking lots usually fill up and there's typically a bunch of traffic. City officials say the ART bus is an easy way to avoid all of that.

"Albuquerque Rapid Transit, ART, is going to transform the way residents of and visitors to Albuquerque traverse Central Avenue," Mayor Richard Berry said. "I'm pleased that River of Lights attendees will get to preview these state-of-the-art buses for no charge while attending one of New Mexico's largest holiday events."

The River of Lights runs from Nov. 25 to Dec. 30.  The ART buses are expected to run on the weekends every 15 minutes. The ART pickup stations will be at Coors at Central, Yucca at Central and Atrisco at Central.
