ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- On Monday night, the television show "American Ninja Warrior" pit a new group of competitors against a fresh round of obstacles.

An Albuquerque gym owner competed on Monday night's games. Ninja Park owner Garrett Takach knows the obstacles at his own gym very well, but he faced new ones in Denver with "American Ninja Warrior" -- a show he's wanted to compete on since he first saw it at age sixteen.

"Seeing the course, I was like,' I think I can do that, that's a common conception about that.' I can do that stuff, and that's just how I like to work out," said Takach.

His own journey has been about helping people with more than just fitness challenges.

He says his passion is helping kids with autism feel empowered to succeed with their goals, both inside and outside the gym.

"Knowing that obstacles are meant to be overcome and whether it's a physical, literal obstacle or a mental, metaphorical obstacle, the same practice, perseverance and determination you would put into conquering these obstacles, you can conquer any obstacle in life and take yourself further in life than you ever thought possible," said Takach.

He shared that story with American Ninja Warrior producers and got the chance to compete. He doesn't know how much of his adventure will make the cut.

"I'm not sure what they're going to air so I'm in suspense myself," said Takach, but he hopes to make Albuquerque proud.
