APD: Suspect killed in officer-involved shooting near Menaul, University Web Staff

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- A suspect died following an officer-involved shooting in northeast Albuquerque Monday evening, according to police.


The shooting occurred in the area of Vassar Drive and Phoenix Avenue, which is north of Menaul Boulevard and east of University Boulevard. APD says the incident began as a traffic stop on Phoenix Avenue when the officer perceived a threat from the driver and opened fire.

The suspect, who was not identified, died at the hospital. So far, police have not said if the suspect was armed and did not provide information about the threat the officer reportedly perceived.

The officer was not injured.
