ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- A calendar committee for the Albuquerque Public Schools district is currently working on the 2018-2019 school year, and they're taking community feedback before it is finalized.

Staff, parents and community members are all involved in the process of forming that calendar.

"You have negotiated contract days, you have testing, you have built-in things like Balloon Fiesta," said Monica Armenta, Executive Director of the APS Communications Department. "It's a really delicate and difficult task to agree on that school year calendar. It takes hours and hours of meeting and…lots of people have a voice in it."

Under the current proposal, the 2018 school year will start August 13 and end on May 22 of 2019. Parent-teacher conference and planning days are also penciled in, as is a slightly different winter break.

"The winter holiday break is going to be later, it doesn't start until close to the 24th and runs all the way to January 8th so that's going to be a little bit different," Armenta said.
