ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Police are investigating after a man crashed his car into a house in northeast Albuquerque, killing the homeowner.

The crash happened around 12:30 p.m. Thursday on the 10900 block of Mahlon Ave. NE, about three blocks north of Morris and Constitution.

According to Albuquerque police, a white Ford Expedition crashed through the garage door – pushing a parked car into the living room and pinning a 74-year-old man underneath it.

The man who was struck was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The driver of the car, identified by police as 52-year-old Mark Castello, was also taken to the hospital. Police say Castello admitted to smoking meth and marijuana prior to driving.

According to APD, Castello was also drunk.

Castello is facing multiple charges, including DWI resulting in death, driving with a revoked license, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a controlled substance. He pleaded not guilty to these charges January 16.
