ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The normally green grass at Albuquerque's Roosevelt Park is now covered in eye-catching patches of blue and pink Easter trash.

"It pisses me off, honestly,” said Ryan Callahan, who visited the park on Thursday. “This is an absolutely gorgeous park."

It’s now hard to enjoy because of people not picking up after their Easter celebrations.

"It makes me really sad that people come out and just trash the park,” said another visitor named Sara. “This is our Earth and we should be treating it with respect because it gives us so much and it makes me sad there's so much trash here."

It was the same scene at Kit Carson Park where we found the ground covered in plastic Easter basket grass and leftover eggs. Unfortunately, the city sees it ever year.

"I would compare it to having ten bags of confetti and spreading it across the grass,” said Mark Chavez, the park management superintendent. “It's really difficult to pick up every single piece of trash in a park especially when it's not in the trash cans."

The city did add two trash routes on Easter to pick up the trash people threw out in a trash can. But it's all the other trash scattered around the park that's the real, and sometimes, smelly problem.

"Sometimes you'll find a real egg that somebody hid and somebody didn't find and that's always - you smell it before you find it," Chavez said.

Chavez said it usually takes the city about a week to clean up all the trash from Easter.
