ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico Supreme Court denied an appeal challenging the sentence of a man convicted of rape when he was just 15.

Two decades ago, Joel Ira was sentenced to 91-and-a-half years in prison. He won't be eligible for parole until he serves at least 46 years, or about half of that sentence.

By then, Ira will be about 62 years old.

The court's decision says his sentence does not violate U.S. Supreme Court rulings that found mandatory juvenile life-without-parole terms unconstitutional.
