ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – There’s a lot to love about living in Albuquerque. On Saturday night people celebrated the multitude of reasons to appreciate the Duke City at Somos ABQ.

It’s the largest festival to ever be held in Downtown, and hundreds braved the rainy weather to celebrate.

“Somos means ‘We are.’ So we’re saying, ‘Somos Albuquerque. Somos juntos,’ said Cailyn Kilcup, event organizer. “All of us are in this together, right?”

From Fourth Street to Seventh Street, Central Avenue got a makeover for the first-of-its-kind event, one that Kilcup said is the result of an effort by “hundreds of collaborators.”

“We are just so excited to show our heart through all this,” she said.

Artists created work tailored to the Downtown festival, and most of those pieces were interactive – including a pop-up park.

“We laid some sod down and have this urban oasis,” said artist Phillip Torres. “For people just to come and experience.”

Temporary stages featured national headliners and local musical act, while vendors offered delicious food and other mementos – all in the spirit of celebrating Albuquerque’s past, present and future.

“We’re hoping that people meet other people, and those connections that form and build really change our community in beautiful ways,” Kilcup said.
