ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- It's a murder case that keeps getting more twisted. Don Fluitt, 54, was found dead in his garage back in December. Months later, police arrested his ex-wife's new husband as the prime suspect.
Fluitt's ex-wife, Christine White, is now going down for her involvement in the murder, turned in by the last person you’d expect.
Fluitt was found dead in his Northwest Albuquerque home Dec. 28. Court documents show he had been in an ongoing custody battle with his ex-wife and her new husband Terry White over their 11 -year-old daughter. Fluitt had filed a new motion in September 2016 and a hearing was scheduled for just one week after his murder.
According to police, Fluitt's ex-wife didn't respond to the motion until just one day after his murder, on Dec. 29.
It took months to make an arrest, but after Terry White's DNA was found underneath Fluitt's fingernails, he was arrested in Arizona for the murder in April and extradited back to New Mexico.
While in jail, police say Terry White confided in a cellmate about him and his wife conspiring to murder Fluitt over the custody issues. According to a new criminal complaint, Terry White also asked that cellmate to make contact with Christina White once he was out of prison. Terry White wanted the cellmate to help in a plan to smuggle him some pills so that he could commit suicide.
Terry White went on to tell the inmate that he had a "$250,000 life insurance policy" that was "iron-clad" even if he killed himself. According to an interview the cellmate gave police, once he was out of jail he did make contact with Christina White. He took $200 from her and made her sign a paper detailing her involvement in the suicide plan.
Instead of going back to MDC, the man went to police with all the information including everything Terry White divulged about the murder and Christine White's involvement. Investigators were able to confirm the man's story through cell phone records and pictures of Christine’s hand written note on his phone.
Christine White was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit murder and an open count of first-degree murder. She's currently being held with no bond.
