GALLUP, N.M. – She seemed to have a way with words.

Lisa Romero Muniz was described as a secret-keeper, a shoulder to lean on and a motivator on Saturday by those who knew her best.

With a personality and smile that seemed to lure you in, you don’t have to look hard to see how much Muniz meant to the people around her.

“She was the basis of everything I ever want to be,” said Muniz’s son, Lawrence Garcia. “My ultimate role model for being a better person, especially in this community where she had such an impact.”

Simply put, she was an inspiration for her four kids, her four grandkids and countless students who claimed her as their mom.

“She was a very loving person,” said Chris Muniz, her husband. “Her smile could brighten any dark room or any gloomy day that you had.”

The Muniz’ were in Las Vegas on Oct. 1. The couple was looking forward to a vacation in her favorite spot, enjoying great music from her favorite artist.

“We liked to travel, and her favorite place was Vegas. All the time. And I was always like, ‘Can’t we go somewhere else, try something different?’ No, we can just go to Vegas,” he said.

This time, though, an enticing trip transformed into a nightmare, spoiled by a barrage of bullets that rained down on thousands of concertgoers.

It’s something Chris Muniz can only describe with a few words.

“It was really horrific and tragic,” he said.

Instead of replaying that painful day, her family chose to reflect on the memories she left behind.

“She did anything she could within her power for any of her children. Anything,” he said. “She would make it happen one way or another.”
