Gov. Susana Martinez announced Thursday she will ask the legislature to put an extra $6.5 million into the budget for the district attorney in Bernalillo County. It's the amount Torrez had been asking for in order to recruit and hire more attorneys.

"We have to be sure that there is enough of the folks that are actually in the courtroom holding these people accountable, and that we stop that revolving door of crime that is paramount in Albuquerque," Martinez said.

The governor also announced the arrests of 17 people for failure to check in for probation or parole.
