ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- In the next few weeks the installation of about 500 new signs guiding bicyclists, runners, and walkers will be finished along the city’s new 50-Mile Activity Loop.

But not everyone knows what the new signs are for. Someone even asked what the signs were for in an online Reddit post.

"The signs are intended, as you are on the 50-Mile Activity Loop, to let you know how far you are from the beginning or end of the loop right here at Fourth and Tijeras," said Mark Motsko, the public information officer for the Department of Municipal Development.

Motsko said the signs started going up at the beginning of April with a total installation cost of $100,000. He said the 50-Mile Activity Loop is meant to encourage people to get outdoors.

"We have great weather almost year-round and it's really just to get out and enjoy the amenities that Albuquerque has to offer," he said.
