ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Studies have shown good lighting can improve public safety, and one Albuquerque neighborhood could start seeing the benefits.

Street lights in Martineztown have been fitted with LED bulbs to improve visibility and save energy. Over the next year, about 20,000 lights will get the new bulbs.

The city is partnering with a company called Citelum, which will maintain the lights for 15 years. The project is expected to pay for itself with reduced energy and maintenance costs.
