ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – An Albuquerque middle schooler is now the proud owner of a new classical guitar, courtesy of a generous musician.

Cheyanna Arellano is an eighth grader at Taylor Middle School, where she's also a member of the school's advanced guitar ensemble.

Arellano has been using the school's classical guitar, but John Truitt with Guitar New Mexico said their group saw a need and wanted to fill it.

"We hope that she, first of all, will have an instrument to play and practice and love," Truitt said. "Second of all, that she will also be able to realize how much we support her and how much we want her to continue and keep going."

Truitt said Arellano will be able to use her new guitar when she makes the jump to high school later this year.

Guitar New Mexico works to further guitar education in public schools for students who show potential.
