ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. –Firefighters battled a fire at an apartment complex in northeast Albuquerque Friday but efforts were hampered due to a broken water main.

AFD units arrived on scene just after noon at the apartments on Osuna east of San Mateo.  When crews arrived on scene they observed smoke and flames rising from the apartments with eight apartments fully-involved.

Water pressure was low due to the broken water main, prompting officials to call for a second alarm and take a defensive approach to the fire. Firefighters were able to put out the fire a short time after.

Fire officials say four apartments were a total loss, with the remainder sustaining smoke and water damage.

No one was injured in the fire, however, some residents were displaced and have been assisted by the American Red Cross.

The fire is now under investigation.
