It happened Thursday evening around 8 p.m. Police say 31-year-old Michael Wayne Williams of Cerrillos, was driving at a high rate of speed when he tried to take a sharp right turn, but left the road hitting a ‘large rock structure.’

Officers say Williams was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police say alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash and an investigation is still underway.
