Leonard Martinez is a Santa Fe County deputy. According to a criminal complaint, a New Mexico State Police officer pulled him over on Saturday in Taos County for swerving.

State Police say he smelled strongly of alcohol, and he failed field sobriety tests. They say he was arrested for aggravated DWI after refusing a breath test. He was also charged with failure to maintain a traffic lane.

The Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office confirmed Martinez, a detective in the criminal investigation division, is on desk duty pending an internal review.

“We are aware of the incident involving deputy Martinez," said Juan Rios, a spokesperson for the sheriff's department. "The Santa Fe Sheriff’s Department has placed deputy Martinez on desk duty pending an internal review of the incident he was arrested for."
