According to the Valencia County News Bulletin, students at Valencia High School want to rename the Rio Grande Bridge on Main Street after Daniel Fernandez.

Fernandez threw himself on a grenade in the Vietnam War, saving his comrades in the process.

The Los Lunas Village Council unanimously approved the renaming last week. Now the initiative heads to the New Mexico Department of Transportation for approval.
