THE BIG STORY

With the start of autumn comes cooler temperatures, and the Four Corners area will be feeling that shift before anyone else in the state.

A freeze warning will be in effect from 4 a.m. to 8 a.m. Monday for Farmington and most of San Juan County, as well as parts of northern McKinley County.

Meanwhile, Eddy County is under a flash flood watch until 6 a.m. Monday.

Those trends are being caused by a statewide cold front that is the aftermath of storms in the northwest part of the country. As a result, virtually the entire western half of the state faces consistent chances for rain through most of the work week.

AROUND THE STATE

  • Roswell – High of 79 on Monday before dipping down into the high and mid-60s for the rest of the work week. Windy conditions on Tuesday and Thursday with chances for rain ranging from 10 percent to 60 percent for the next week.
  • Farmington – Low-to-mid chances for rain for most of the work week, with highs reaching 73 and lows beginning to dip just below 40.
  • Santa Fe – Highs in the mid-to-high 60s for most of the week, with a low of right around 50 degrees for the next seven days. Once past Monday, the state’s capital faces windy and potentially rainy conditions through the weekend.
  • Albuquerque – Highs in the high 60s and low 70s for the week, but not quite getting to the 40s just yet on the cooler side of things. Just like the rest of the week, the Albuquerque metro faces windy and breezy conditions for most of the week, with consistently moderate chances for rain through the next seven days.
