Truck fire halts eastbound traffic on I-40 at Rio Grande

Albuquerque Fire Department responded to a semi-trailer fire at 7 p.m. near I-40 and Rio Grande.

AFD says the truck was fully engulfed when they arrived.

The driver told AFD that noticed smoke coming from the back-end of his truck. He pulled over to call a mechanic and was parked when flames erupted in the cab.

He was able to flee the vehicle before the fire engulfed the cab. No injuries have been reported.

The truck and three vehicles it was hauling are a total loss.
