ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – For the second time in three years, the University of New Mexico Women’s Cross Country runners were crowned national champions Saturday morning in Louisville, Kentucky.
New Mexico placed four runners in the top 14 to secure the title with 90 total points – 15 better than second-place San Francisco, according to the official results posted by the NCAA. UNM’s Ednah Kurgat also won the individual title with a time of 19:19.50, capping an undefeated season.
The championship is only the third for New Mexico in the university’s 128-year history, following the women cross country program’s win in 2015 and the skiing team’s title in 2004.
