ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- "Mobbing" is when a group of people, usually teenagers, go door-to-door trying to break into homes and cars. It appears a case of mobbing has been caught on camera on Albuquerque’s West Side.

Steven Roberts’ security camera detected motion in the street outside his home around 3 a.m. Friday. When he woke up, he checked the video and was shocked when he saw two cars pull up outside his house. The people inside got out.

"About eight people get out in each vehicle, and they just run through the neighborhood checking every car door of every vehicle on the block," Roberts said.

One person in the video can be clearly seen walking up to Roberts' truck parked on the street. That person tries to open the door, while another tries his two vehicles parked in the driveway.

"It's hard to tell whether or not they're looking to steal vehicles or just breaking into them to get whatever's in the vehicle out," Roberts said. "They seem to be well organized. They just pull up, they jump out. It looks like they have some kind of an agenda. Everyone knows where to go and they're in and out in 30 seconds."

The cars drove off, following some of the people through the neighborhood. One almost got left behind and ran after them.

"It seems like they're very brazen they don't really care much about property or life," Roberts said.

He said the video reminds him of the murder of Steven Gerecke. In that incident, the Albuquerque man was shot and killed two years ago after confronting a group of mobbing teens.

"I'm afraid somebody's going to get hurt, killed, shot," Roberts said.

He said someone had already tried to break into his truck earlier this month.

"We're putting together a neighborhood watch in this neighborhood and we're just not going to put up with it anymore. We're going to take matters into our own hands. It's that time," he said.
