A Santa Fe police officer has been placed on administrative leave after being charged with driving while under the influence.

The Albuquerque Journal reports that 44-year-old Stephen Ryan of Rio Rancho was charged with aggravated DWI after he almost struck a Rio Rancho police squad car Sunday morning.

According to the paper, Rio Rancho police pulled Ryan over after seeing him strike a curb on Golf Course Road. Ryan pulled over, but then began backing up his truck, forcing an officer to put his squad car in reverse to keep from being hit.

The paper quotes Ryan telling the officer that he had accidentally put the truck in reverse.   He also said that he was taking four types of medications and had had one beer.
