Rio Rancho police cite officer for DWI

A Santa Fe police officer is facing DWI charges after a weekend arrest.
Rio Rancho police detained Stephen Ryan, 44, on Sunday. They say Ryan, a 17-year veteran of the force, was swerving his car on Southern Boulevard, smelled of alcohol and performed poorly on a field sobriety test.
Police say he initially denied driving drunk, saying he was on four different medications.
He has been put on paid leave by the Santa Fe Police Department.
