Eyewitness News 4 was first to tell you about an investigation into an alleged drug ring at Eldorado on Monday. In a new development Wednesday, detectives say they got a tip saying a teenager, who lives just two blocks from the school, was selling heroin out the back of his car to students. Detectives visited the teen's home, just two blocks from the school, on Tuesday. When they confronted the teen, they say he "began pacing throughout the house and could not stand still." Detectives searched the suspect's bedroom and say they found two containers of heroin, multiple papers for packaging the drug and unknown orange pills, according to an affidavit. Since March, a task force involving the feds, APD and BCSO has been investigating allegations of a heroin trafficking ring at Eldorado High. Lt. David Knowles of the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department says the investigation was high priority. "Any types of drug investigations are a concern to us, especially when they're going on at a school," he said. Detectives didn't find anything in the teen's car, but when they looked at his cell phone, officers say they found a message stating that someone "needed to get some because he was hurting bad." Detectives say the teen eventually admitted to using heroin and marijuana. APS wasn't able to confirm if the teen is currently a student at Eldorado. Investigators want to know if he is part of the alleged heroin trafficking ring. "Is this a user, a supplier, or the manufacturer? And what part do they play in the whole drug business," said Knowles. The suspect's family didn't want to comment about the allegations and it's unknown if he was arrested. The feds say their investigation is in the beginning stages. |
