Wildfire burns in Jemez

U.S. Forest Service officials are battling a lightning-sparked fire that flared up in the Jemez Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest over the weekend.
Lawrence Lujan of the forest service reports that the fire has consumed a little more than 10 acres and is burning in heavy, dead vegetation in Ruiz Canyon about seven miles northeast of Ponderosa, New Mexico.
Three engines, a helicopter, an air tanker and one fire crew are trying to get the fire under control.
Lujan reports that no structures are currently threatened. He says the nearest homes are about a half a mile away and an electronic site on Cerro Pelado Lookout is about four miles away.
Smoke is expected to be visible from Ponderosa, Vallecitos de los Indios and possibly Highway 4.
