Bernalillo County DWI checkpoint
At least two people are arrested for trying to flee a DWI checkpoint Friday in Bernalillo County.

Two men were taken into custody, though officials say neither man was drunk. Both will face charges from fleeing authorities.

Deputies say they are unsure why the men ran.

Officials say they often have to track drown drivers who think they can avoid going through the checkpoint.

"Prior to people getting to the checkpoint they see the lights and try and turn around and try and head the other way," Bernalillo County Sheriff's Deputy Josh Kingsburry said.

Deputies day they also had a driver abandon his vehicle and jump the bridge near Rio Bravo and Isleta, and he escaped through the bosque.

Deputies say there were seven arrests made at the checkpoint, but only one for DWI.
