Las Cruces man killed in highway accident

ANTHONY (AP) - New Mexico authorities say a 25-year-old Las Cruces man was killed early Saturday after his car crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer.

The state Department of Public Safety identified the victim as Max A. Racelis.

They say the crash occurred just before 2 a.m. on Interstate 10 near Anthony, south of Las Cruces.

DPS officials say the tractor-trailer was in the processing of exiting the interstate when Racelis' car rear-ended the big rig.

Racelis was pronounced dead at the scene while the big rig driver escaped injury.

The DPS says alcohol, speed and the victim not wearing a seat belt were contributing factor in the fatal crash.
