Couple charged with abusing 2-week-old infant
Raymond Gabaldon and Ashley Tafoya
A Los Lunas couple charged with abusing a two-week-old child is being held in lieu of $250,000 cash-only bail each.
According to Los Lunas Police Chief Roy Melnick, 25-year-old Raymond Gabaldon and 29-year-old Ashley Tafoya were arrested on Tuesday after a medical examination conducted on the infant at the University of New Mexico Hospital.
According to Melnick, the examination concluded that the infant’s injuries were consistent with torture and sexual molestation.
Melnick says the infant, which he said was Gabaldon and Tafoya’s child, suffered injuries ranging from a broken bone to cuts, bruises and scabbing in the area of the infant's genitalia.
Melnick says that Gabaldon and Tafoya had lived together for about two years at the Casa de Chavez apartments in Los Lunas. They are being held at the Valencia County jail.
