SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - North Korean diplomats expressed interest in utility-scale solar and wind power production during a briefing Thursday on renewable energy in New Mexico.

A pair of diplomats spent three hours Thursday getting briefed by renewable energy company officials at the Santa Fe Community College.

The director of the college's Sustainable Technologies Center, Randy Grissom, says they were interested in large-scale concentrated solar and wind power projects.

He says they asked about the cost and effectiveness of producing electricity from renewable energy sources.

Grissom says North Korea relies on fossil fuel, and the diplomats expressed interest in trying to integrate renewable energy into their energy mix.

He says North Korea has at least one wind farm.

The North Koreans, who are leaving New Mexico later Thursday, did not take questions from reporters. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
