APD still following hard leads in West Mesa case

The families of the West Mesa victims say they want to bring in a psychic to help solve the case. They met with Albuquerque's chief of police Saturday to ask APD to pay to bring the man to New Mexico.

The psychic's name is Phil Jordan and he specializes in helping police solve crimes, but can he and should he help solve the West Mesa mystery?

The mother of one of the victims contacted Jordan about a year and a half ago-- long before any bones turned up on the West Mesa.

She was trying to figure out what happened to her missing daughter, and Jordan's reading back then is eerily similar to how the case has actually played out.

He predicted multiple bodies and the likely cause of death.

On Saturday, the families asked Chief Ray Schultz if APD would pay to bring Jordan onto the case.

Dan Valdez, father of victim Michelle Valdez, said Saturday, "He said it was a little premature to bring in a psychic now, that they want to exhaust all of their hard leads that they have in hand."

It's not that the families don't trust the dozens of detectives working the case, they just feel Jordan may see something that cops missed.

Chief Schultz told the families on Saturday the case is in good shape.

"He was confident that they will able to solve, and we just all have to have patience," Valdez said.

Valdez says Saturday's meeting gives the families the reassurance they need as they wait for the case to be solved.

"I'm willing to put forth the patience and the time that APD needs to crack this case and make it solid and make it stick," he said.

Valdez says he also spoke to producers from the show America's Most Wanted, who told him the episode about the West Mesa mystery was set to re-air on Saturday night.
