ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Six New Mexico cities and counties will share $1.3 million in federal stimulus money to improve energy efficiency, reduce emissions and create green jobs.

The grants from the U.S. Department of Energy were announced Friday by U.S. Sens. Jeff Bingaman and Tom Udall.

The communities can use the grants to pay for energy audits, building retrofits, building code changes, inspections and the creation of financial incentive programs for energy efficiency improvements.

Sandoval County will get the largest grant, $169,500. Taos, Las Cruces and the counties of Santa Fe, Grant and Dona Ana will also receive funding.
