FARMINGTON, N.M. (AP) - An Aztec company will spend $50,000 to $100,000 to clean up some 12,000 gallons of drip gas that spilled at a well site near the Colorado border in northwestern New Mexico.

The San Juan County Sheriff's Department says the spill at the Great Western Drilling site occurred when someone tried to steal gas between Sept. 1 and Sept. 8.

Great Western Drilling engineer Sam Roberts says most of the production at well sites is natural gas, but there's a certain amount of oil, called drip gas, separated at the surface.

Drip gas is collected in tanks and sent to a refinery.
