Thousands turned out for the Race For The Cure in Albuquerque.
Runners and walkers hit the streets of Albuquerque Sunday for the Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure -- an annual event and fundraiser to show support for breast cancer awareness and treatment.
For Anette Atencio, it's not just a walk to raise money-- the Race For The Cure gives her hope in her ongoing battle with breast cancer.
"I have four more years of the chemo pills, and there's side effects on effects on effects, but you keep your head up, you have lost of hope and lots of support and lots of love," Atencio said. "You keep going-- you don't stop."
Thousands turned out at Isotopes park on Sunday morning to kick off the race.
For years, Sandra Jamison walked in memory of her friend Sami. Now, she is walking for herself.
"Since I was just diagnosed, in July, had my first surgery had my first chemo at the end of August, it means a lot to me to be here," Jamison said.
Other breast cancer patients say the amout of people that come out for the race every year gives them the will to survive.
Kathy Garner is on her third chemo treatment, with five more to go.
Her next step is surgery, but she has faith that this is a battle she will win.
"It's one of those things that when you're actually diagnosed with it, it's so overwhelming, and having the support of everyone and your family. But knowing that other people have gone through and have survived-- it's huge when you're in treatment," she said.
KOB is a proud sponsor of the Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure. Our very own Tom Joles and Nicole Brady emceed the event.
