ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Bernalillo County officials say the county will save more than 3.9 million gallons of water a year from putting low water use toilets and other water-saving fixtures in county facilities.

County officials say the retrofit program replaced 580 toilets with high efficiency or low-flow toilets and installed 700 low-flow faucet aerators, 220 low-flow shower heads and 50 low-flow urinals.

The work took more than two years to complete and cost $94,250 after $77,000 in rebates from the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority.

The next project will be to xeriscape county facilities to reduce watering.
