The work is set to begin Tuesday as long as weather conditions are favorable. Forest officials say smoke will likely be visible from the city and the Pecos Canyon area.
About 850 acres will be treated using aerial and hand ignitions over the course of a few days.
The watershed provides about 40 percent of Santa Fe's drinking water.
