Construction continues Monday on the roof of Manzano High
The roofing project is still going on at Manzano High School after seven straight months. So why is it taking so long?
An Eyewitness News 4 viewer sent us that question and we went to APS looking for answers.
After over half a year of construction, Manzano student Smyrne Vermeille says the noise has become too much.
"It is making loud noises during classes and stuff, so it's hard to concentrate and it's taking forever to finish," Vermeille said.
APS is spending $736,000 to replace the roof of the administration building and the school's weight room because the roof had been leaking.
APS Chief Operations Officer Brad Winter says the project is actually on time.
"The Manzano roofing project is a huge project and anytime you have big roofing projects and you're trying to do a roofing project during school hours, you always have some issues," he said.
Winter says the project is set to be completed by October 25.
APS officials say they are doing more roofing construction than ever before. They are still catching up on damage from the record-breaking snow storm almost three years ago.
