RIO RANCHO, N.M. (AP) - Folks in Rio Rancho have bagged a lot of trash - 18 tons of debris.

More than 500 volunteers took part in the Trek for Trash project last month.  The effort cleaned up Rio Rancho roadways, schools, parks and open spaces.

The Trek for Trash is part of a statewide challenge to clean up New Mexico.  It gives residents an opportunity to work together with one goal in mind - to keep New Mexico clean and beautiful.

Rio Rancho city officials will sponsor another event Saturday where residents can drop off household hazardous waste.
