Several prescribed burns are planned for the next few days by the Santa Fe National Forest. Smoke may be visible from Jemez Springs, Bernalillo, San Ysidro, Pecos and I-25.

The Chaparral Prescribed Burn, approximately 9 miles northwest of Jemez Springs, began today. It is expected to be a 1,500 acre burn.

The Mesa Camino Prescribed Burn, approximately 7 miles east of Gallina, was supposed to burn today but will not, according to forestry officials.

Fire managers plan to burn 380 acres in the Thompson Ridge area on October 16-17 near La Cueva.

A 2,700 acre prescribed burn is planned to begin on Glorieta Mesa beginning October 20 through the month of November. The burn area will reduce pinon-juniper encroachment about 14 miles southeast of Pecos.
