Former Lobo basketball player Mel Daniels is out as the Pacers director of player personnel. Team president Larry Bird said in a statement that Daniels was a "great basketball player who helped make the Pacers a well-known franchise.” Daniels is a two-time American Basketball Association MVP who won three championships with the Pacers in the early 1970s. Daniels played for the University of New Mexico from 1964-67.
According to Rob Miech of the Las Vegas Sun, UNM basketball coach Steve Alford, who is recruiting Findley Prep senior power forward Godwin Okonji, attended Thursday night’s practice.
