Locksley Was On The Sidelines For The UNLV Game

Saturday night UNM football head coach Mike Locksley was serving his one game suspension for getting involved in a physical altercation with one of his assistants.  Before the game, Locksley was on the sidelines… Meiko Locksley.  Mike's son, Meiko,  is a senior at La Cueva high school and was taking his official recruiting visit (I assume) this week.  Meiko Locksley has already been offered a scholarship by UNM and NMSU.  Here are some observations from Saturday's loss to UNLV.

This Lobo team is still making several mistakes you wouldn't expect a team to make 7 games into the season.

UNM coaches could be heard on the sidelines telling some players they are going the wrong way on several missed assignments.  At one point you could see defensive coordinator Doug Mallory throwing his hands up in the air as if to say "What are you guys doing?!".

UNM had 2 weeks to prepare for one of the weaker teams in the conference and that's their best effort in the first half?

Remember that UNM turnover in the fourth quarter on a punt return that gave UNLV the ball and ultimately another score?  A television replay apparently showed the UNLV kicker with his knee on the ground that would have given UNM the ball deep in Rebel territory.

Carmen Messina is a reason there is hope in the future for this defense that can't seem to stop anyone.  The nation's leading tackler has GREAT speed and always finds his way to the ball.

Upset with the first half play of quarterback Donovan Porterie, you could hear a small group of UNM fans chanting "Hol-Brook…Hol-Brook" in a loud request for backup B.R. Holbrook.

The most amusing sight of the night was a Lobo fan wearing a bag over his head in the closing minutes of the game (a New Orleans Saints fan should have put a copyright on that look).

This team keeps shooting themselves in the foot with silly mistakes.  As one person on the sidelines put it, "This is almost unwatchable".  In my opinion, this team will not win a game this season.
