BLOOMFIELD, N.M. (AP) - Bloomfield Municipal Judge Edward Wood has resigned but submitted a letter that stated no reason for the action.

The resignation is effective Dec. 31.

Wood's decision was announced at Monday's city council meeting. It came as a surprise to city officials, who hope to fill the position by early December to give the successor time to train under Wood.

The municipal judge is an elected position.

Because Wood is leaving before his four-year term ends, Mayor Scott Eckstein will appoint a replacement who must be approved by the council.
