Kristy Sanchez-Trujillo
We caught up with the owner of the dance studio where 33-year-old Kristy Sanchez-Trujillo also worked as a part-time instructor.
Sanchez-Trujillo taught dance several times a week at On Stage Performing Arts near Interstate 40 and Coors.
Her good friend and boss from the studio said she's shocked and disappointed to learn of the teacher's arrest.
"We're all taken by surprise and disappointed," said studio owner Wanda Mitchell.
She has been in business at the northwest Albuquerque dance studio for more than 50 years.
She says her dance teachers are certified, and checked out thoroughly before they're hired.
"Our first and foremost concern has always been about the kids and the safety of the students and I think this is just a very unfortunate thing," Mitchell said.
Kristy Sanchez-Trujillo taught at the studio back in the 90s, and then again starting last summer.
Late Wednesday, police arrested her.
They say the Jimmy Carter Middle School social studies teacher confessed to driving a 13-year-old student to the movies, and then to the Petroglyphs National Monument, where the two had sex in the back of her car on two occasions.
She described the boy as "a 25-year-old in a 13-year-old's body."
Sanchez-Trujillo spent four hours at the county jail before posting a $2,500 bond.
No one answered the door at her home Thursday.
Albuquerque Public Schools fired her, and she's now facing three counts of rape.
"I got several calls from parents and text messages saying they were very supportive of us, that they were sorry this happened," Mitchell said.
Sanchez-Trujillo will be arraigned in court on Friday at 1:30.
