Former teacher makes first appearance on sex charge

A 33-year-old former middle school teacher made a first court appearance Friday after being charged with having sex with one of her seventh grade students. 

According to police, Kristy Sanchez-Trujillo has admitted that she had sex with a 13-year-old Jimmy Carter Middle School student. Sanchez-Trujillo has since been fired from APS.

Sanchez-Trujillo is charged with rape.

The case has sent shivers through Jimmy Carter Middle School parents.

“She’s an adult. He’s still a child,” said Albert Rocha, one of the parents. Another, Fabiola Ramirez-Rocha said, “I’m infuriated with the situation. I think it’s disgusting.”
