Sanchez-Trujillo was quiet in court Friday.
One week ago, she was a social studies teacher at Jimmy Carter Middle School. Friday, Kristy Sanchez-Trujillo was in a courtroom facing charges she raped one of her students.
Sanchez-Trujillo didn't say anything in court, instead standing stoically before a judge with her attorney by her.
According to court documents, the teacher admitted to police she twice had sex with a 13-year-old boy—one of her students. She faces four charges, including sexual penetration by school personnel.
Friday, a judge allowed her to stay out on bond but ordered her to stay away from the boy.
"No contact with the alleged victim in any fashion in anyway or with anyone that may testify," Judge Kevin Fitzwater told her.
After the hearing, Sanchez-Trujillo's attorney, Armando Torres, said his client is a victim of the media.
"I think that my client has been crucified by the media at this point. I think it's time for the Justice Department or the State of New Mexico to take its course with regard to the criminal justice system. I would just ask to respect her privacy, her and her families."
While APS has fired Sanchez-Trujillo, her teaching license will likely by revoked by the state. She must also stay away from the school as well.
