Officers check the residence of a sex offender Saturday
Law enforcement in Bernalillo County kept a close eye on sex offenders living in the community Saturday to make sure they weren't contacting trick-or-treaters.
If you knock on a sex offender's door, they are not supposed to answer it--let alone hand out candy.
On Halloween, the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department teamed up with Probation and Parole and the US Marshals Service to remind sex offenders that they can't partake in the night's festivities.
"We're just looking for the fact that they're where they say they are and that they don't have their house covered with Halloween decorations, they're not inviting kids to their house," BCSO's AJ Rodriguez said.
BCSO officials say they usually don't have any problems. But officials say if they find someone who doesn't comply with the rules, there are consequences.
"Depends of the severity, but most likely, they're going to go to jail. We're pretty zero-tolerance," Rodriguez said.
About a hundred sex offenders are on the county's list. BCSO says at least one man on probation was arrested Saturday night for handing out candy.
