NMSU police hope for leads in 2007 case

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico State University police say someone out there knows who raped a woman on campus on Halloween two years ago.
The rewards for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect is now $3,000.
NMSU Deputy Police Chief Stephen Lopez says with some small DNA samples still being tested, the case is far from being closed.
The armed suspect beat and repeatedly raped a female resident of NMSU's Vista del Monte apartments on Halloween 2007. The man was wearing a mask that looked like a human face and medical-style latex gloves.
If DNA evidence produces a profile but no matches are found, Lopez says police will pursue a nationwide "John Doe" warrant so that when the suspect is eventually found, he can be arrested.
