Three people were taken into police custody Tuesday morning after a short car chase on the West Side ended with a carjacked truck crashing near the bosque.

The incident began at about 7:15 when a person who had been carjacked on Friday reported to police that he had seen his truck near Interstate 40 and 98th Street.

Police set up a perimeter and spotted the stolen truck near Unser and Montano and chased it to Coors and Montano where the truck's driver lost control shortly before 8:00.

Chopper 4 spotted three people fleeing the truck and running into the bosque not far from Bosque Academy and later saw police handcuffing three people at the scene.

The father of one man who was caught up in the chase said his son faced the speeding carjacked truck heading straight for him.

"He was still shaking 15 minutes later," recalled Marvin Hamilton.  "He felt that was like death looking at him right in the face.  They just barely missed him by inches.

Bosque Preparatory Academy was briefly locked down while officers searched for the suspects.

One police car was hit during the chase, but there are no reports of any injuries.
